The name “Tanglefoot” hails from Temple’s earliest days as a booming railroad camp—originally nicknamed “Mud Town” or “Tanglefoot” because the muddy streets and plentiful saloons made walking a lively challenge.
For locals, that name isn’t just history—it’s a tribute to the city’s spirited origins. These muddy, music-filled streets were where travelers, workers, and neighbors gathered to sway, laugh, and build the warm, inclusive community Temple is known for today
